August 23 – Jitters Caused Florida Man to Dial 911 Five Times in a Day

Daniel Ferriera, a 25-year-old resident of Palm Beach Gardens, was arrested by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office after calling 911 five times in a few hours to report that he was experiencing severe chest pains. The Florida man had been previously treated for false symptoms of cardiac arrest, which he confessed were caused by his frequent use of cocaine, and he had dialed 911 more than 50 times in a few months under similar circumstances.

During the final call before his arrest, Ferriera had already called 911 four times since the early morning. He had spent the night taking cocaine before he started dialing 911, and for his last call at 9:30 a.m. the dispatcher alerted deputies before notifying paramedics from the fire department. Upon arrival, the deputies checked the history of Ferriera contacting 911, and they learned that he had called six times in the two previous days. Each time he was either cleared by paramedics at the scene or released immediately by emergency room physicians at the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, where staff members had gotten used to seeing him brought by the fire department, only to be cleared a few minutes later.

Ferriera was taken into custody and charged with misusing the public emergency system. In Florida, this criminal offense can be handled as a misdemeanor or felony depending on the severity, frequency, and monetary losses incurred by the state. In this particular case, Ferriera could face up to five years in prison if prosecutors enhance the charges to a third-degree felony, which is likely because telephonic records show dozens of 911 calls made from his smartphone. When a nurse told Ferriera that he should quit taking cocaine because of the high anxiety he suffers, he replied that he couldn’t stop because it was too much fun.

August 23 – Florida Man Explains His Unusual Daily Raw Chicken Diet

The raw foods movement, which is all about eating uncooked and unprocessed foods, dates back to the early 19th century, but a Florida man who got into it a few years ago is taking raw food diets to new extremes. John is a social media influencer who has been conducting “raw meat experiments” on networks such as Instagram and TikTok to show viewers different diets and unusual culinary customs; his most recent challenge involves devouring chunks of raw chicken and chugging pitchers full of raw eggs.

When John kicks off a new raw diet challenge on his social media channels, he sets up a table outside Whole Foods supermarkets in the Tampa Bay region. For his raw chicken diet with a side of uncooked eggs, he planned to stick with the unusual diet until he felt digestive discomfort, which happened after 27 days. In the past, he has completed similar challenges with raw kangaroo meat, veal brain, and assorted cuts of premium organic beef sold at Whole Foods.

John has been profiled by many Florida news outlets and even Vice News about his raw meat challenges, but he refrains from making his last name known because he has been doxed and received threats in the past. Interestingly, he believes that people who are passionate about vegan diets, which he used to adhere to, are behind the threats. His interest in raw meats came from browsing YouTube and watching videos about regional cuisines; in Japan, for example, raw chicken is the main ingredient in torisashi, a sashimi delicacy of the Kagoshima region. Unlike torisashi, which is served with a yuzu kosho paste of peppers and citrus juice, John eats the chicken straight out of the Whole Foods package.
