Florida Man Files – May 31
May 31 – 18-Year-Old Florida Man Arrested Posing With Weapons and Searching for “Nearest School”
Authorities grappled with the case of a Florida teenager who threatened to undertake a mass shooting. The teen was arrested after authorities received a tip that he had made his threats and aired them online, posting a tactical-style vest, handgun, and a rifle.
Corey Anderson captioned the post with threats that he was headed to the nearest school, whose directions he asked Siri, authorities said. The young man was arrested in Lutz Florida, before authorities established that the handgun and rifle were soft air guns that shot pellets rather than bullets.
The fact that Corey made such threats appear so subtle and air them online made the law enforcement officers take action immediately. The teen who might have thought the cops would smile at him while placing cuffs on him soon learned that his actions were consistent with terrorism. Sheriff Chad Chronister announced there was no way the legal system was going to let that slide, especially because Anderson made the threats intentionally, showing some determination.
So, the cops had to react and protect the students, pressing charges against the teen and a bond of $7,500. Anderson also faced threatening to conduct a mass shooting charges. The young man’s threats had come about 10 days after a 10-year-old Florida boy had threatened to conduct a mass shooting in his high school. A boy his age would not come up with such thoughts and even think of sending threats through texts unless someone asks them to do so.
The boy whose name was not released because he was a minor was from Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral. Florida was grappling with several school shooting threats in schools, which raised concerns about the safety standards of Florida schools.

May 31 – Florida Man Eats Roaches and Worms to Get a Python But Dies Shortly After
If you thought you’d heard enough, well, you’ve not heard of the roach-eating contest. It’s a thing in Florida and the reward system is also out of this world. Typically, when a contest is so out of this world, we expect a huge load of money in return. Say, “Slap your mother for $100,000.” Or “Get the first 5 questions about Cambodia right to win a 1-week vacation to the country.” However, it’s shocking but not surprising to hear a contest of about a dozen men eating cockroaches and worms only to get a python reward in Florida.
The contest required participants to eat as many cockroaches and worms, staying true to its name “Midnight Madness.” We suspect that the brainchild of the contest himself was a madman to even birth out such a crazy idea. Besides, how would you get all the certifications to tame a python just to give it as a reward for contesters who will eat the most insects?
And if you’re wondering, the reptile only cost $850. Besides, the fact that Floridians saw the contest as a thing worthy of their attention and participation shows how wild that state is. On another note, why authorities would allow such events knowing well the effects of eating roaches and worms still lingers in the minds of many.
As the contest started, 32-year-old Edward Archbold took one roach after another, supplementing with worms as the onlookers cheered him. The hype didn’t last though. The man started showing signs of illness and before long, he collapsed to the ground, prompting a medical emergency. The man, who had been the life of the party was down and fighting for his life, Ben Siegel, the store owner who was present during the contest told local news
Archbold was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead upon a medical assessment. The man who attracted everyone’s attention at the contest was gone without getting his reward. While we could guess the cause of his death, investigations were kickstarted to ascertain it.
