Florida Man Calendar – August 21

August 21 – Florida Man Drives a Stolen Mercedes Benz to the Scene of His Crimes

One of the all-encompassing rules for theft is that you need to stay as inconspicuous as possible. However, that doesn’t match the style and flair of many Florida men entering into a life of crime. Nicholas Coffey was one such Florida man. Coffey had both an extreme sense of style and an aversion to honest work. As such, it might not come as a surprise to learn that he decided to steal a Mercedes Benz. What is surprising is what happened next.

Most would keep the theft as low-key as possible and certainly not tell people about the car until long after any investigation has finished. But Coffey is an example of a Florida man who will proudly proclaim everything he does – including posting pics to social media. Things further escalated when the Florida man decided it was time to see what he could steal from parked cars. A smash-and-grab does require a quick escape at times. But few people would be audacious enough to drive their stolen Mercedes Benz when doing so. The sight of a man exiting a Mercedes Benz before fiddling with the doors and windows of locked cars will certainly raise an eyebrow or two.

The Florida man did at least have the foresight to cover his face and wear blue latex gloves when performing his crimes. However, that doesn’t do much good when one doesn’t take it off after going to buy some gas. Police were able to find security footage of Coffey filling up the tank of the stolen Mercedes. Combined with Coffey’s odd gear it was easy to identify him as the suspect. From there it was simply a matter of following the Florida man’s conspicuous trail. Coffey is now facing one count of conspiracy to commit attempted burglary of a conveyance and eleven counts of conspiracy to commit burglary of a conveyance.

August 21 – Florida Man Comes Up With a New Way To Drive Home at 100 Mph

Everyone’s had one of those days where they just need to get home as soon as possible. And, to be sure, most people have had a brief fantasy of making that trip at 100 mph or more. But one Florida man recently put a new spin on the idea. His unique twist on driving home? It wasn’t his own home. And there’s also the small fact that he didn’t pull into the garage, but rather smashed into the side of the house.

If you’ve ever wondered what a car going 100 mph could do to a house then your questions have finally been answered. The Florida man conclusively proved that a car could smash right through a home’s wall and yet still keep the driver relatively safe and sound. Because what happened next is both amazing and audacious – but not unusual for a certain type of Florida man.

After the suspect crashed into the home he simply pulled out and sped away as fast as he could. The nature of the event ensured that there were plenty of witnesses to call in the strange crime. Thankfully, the distinctive red SUV was easily located and the suspect was taken into custody. The Florida man was charged with leaving the scene of a crash. But given the extent of the damages it’s clear that this is going to prove rather complicated for everyone involved. The home now has a giant hole in it that looks like something straight out of post-hurricane footage.
